Sonal’s project Naseeb: Trafficked was presented as a solo exhibition both the Perth Centre for Photography in 2013, and at Next Level Projects / Autograph ABP in 2012. The work was also selected and exhibited by the Photographers Gallery London for FreshFacedandWildEyed11.

More recently, her artist film After the crow flies was screened at the Ikon Gallery (UK) in 2018 and at the Whitechapel Gallery (UK) in 2017. The film was also selected for the BAFTA-recognised Aesthetica Film Festival (UK) the year before in 2016.


Sonal has completed artist residencies in Western Australia at Perth Institute for Contemporary Art, the City of Greater Geraldton and at the Perth Centre for Photography.


She is currently teaching at King’s College (London), and completing her PhD in Film Studies.

She has worked as a visiting lecturer at the University of the Arts (London), the University of Westminster and the University of Hertfordshire (UK), and as a visiting academic at Curtin University (Western Australia).
